GI-Tagged Traditions

Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh
Woven in the ancient town of Chanderi since the 13th century, these sarees are celebrated for their sheer texture, lightweight feel, and signature motifs drawn from nature — peacocks, lotuses, and geometric coins.
Gossamer-thin silk-cotton weave with a translucent sheen.

"Virasat se Vikas Tak"
Phalguna was invited to participate in GI & Beyond — Virasat se Vikas Tak, a national conference organised by the Ministry of Textiles at Hotel Oberoi, New Delhi on 25th November 2024.
The conference brought together weavers, artisans, policymakers, and heritage brands to deliberate on the future of India's Geographical Indication ecosystem — how GI protection can be strengthened, enforced, and made economically meaningful for the craftspeople who carry these traditions.
For Phalguna, being present at this dialogue is not incidental — it is foundational. Our commitment to GI-tagged textiles is not a sourcing policy. It is a position on what Indian craft deserves.
